This Private Residence is a 6,900 square foot 3-story home located on a 5 acre site in Franklin, Tennessee.
The owner selected a beautiful wooded site and had a vision to nestle their residence into the property, while maintaining as much natural beauty as can be accomplished in a suburban area.
The response to this project is a sculpted drive along a naturally landscaped path with hints of the residence becoming more and more visible, resulting in the exposure of an eclectic English Tudor style home set in a pristine English garden, adjoined with natural landscaping.
The beauty of the site continues to the more private rear of the home with a pond and man-made creek leading from the house. To enjoy the natural surroundings the house is designed around an “inside/outside” concept. Many large windows and outdoor living spaces allow the residents to enjoy the surroundings throughout the seasons of the year.
The client desired a house that is casual and functional for guest entertaining.
In response, the kitchen became the central feature, around which guests can mingle. The kitchen is designed to function for preparation of large meals, with warming drawers and extra refrigeration, yet can also be maintained on a smaller scale of family meals. Dining and conversational areas surround the kitchen so that the hosts can be a part of guest activities.
The residence employs many organic materials, such as stone and woods, mixed with features such as stained concrete floors, custom cast iron railings and embossed metal finishes. This eclectic mix of materials delights the senses with color and texture. This adds to the ever-present expanse of windows, pulling the natural surroundings into conversation.
An elevator brings the three floors of the residence into easy access, as well as the full ADA accessibility of the master and guest bathrooms. Another convenience feature of the house is the four car garage, that is constructed such that lifts can be installed to increase the capacity to a full six cars.
